ABOUT US
Rustington Beach Huts is a new name given to a long established company called Castle Tor dating from the 1960s. Barry Sprules who owns the business first came to Rustington as a child for his annual holiday and stayed with his uncle spending many happy hours on the very same beach.
Having been invited to invest in the company some years ago Barry, who was then working full time as a CEO of a housing construction company and having previously started his career in the City, found he had little time to get involved with the business. However, on retirement he looked to do something completely different and then had the opportunity to look afresh at the beach hut business.
It became clear that the business needed fresh direction and in 2013 he took over the business and set about bringing some serious innovation particularly in terms of the management and construction of beach huts. Using his background as a yachtsman Barry worked with an experienced carpenter to design a new range of huts remedying all the shortcomings of the beach huts on the site. These deficiencies included the poor use of materials such as untreated timber and galvanised or mild steel nails none of which stand up to the rigorous conditions on the beach. Having identified the problems they set about designing the ideal beach hut. As well as using treated timber and stainless steel fixings all the new huts on the site have a damp proof membrane, Rockwall insulation and timber lining thereby eliminating serious damp problems allowing users to leave their belongings in the hut all year round.
